There's Always Something to Do in Lake Roosevelt
Lake Roosevelt's immense size and varying topography also makes another thing possible - having fun! There are so many enjoyable things to do in, on and around the lake that the area is often referred to as a recreation heaven. You'll find that a typical Lake Roosevelt home is outfitted with features that make the most of this fact.
First off, there's what you can do on (and in) the water. Boating has always been popular, and if you're in the area you have got to go on a whole-river cruise at least once. Rent a houseboat for the season at the Kettle Falls Marina and enjoy living on the water. Boating, however, means more than just going on a boat ride. You can go canoeing, sailing, kayaking, water-skiing, windsurfing and, of course, fishing. If you're an avid angler, be sure to be here in June for the Washington Governor's Cup Walleye Tournament.
With four full-service marinas and 23 boat ramps, Lake Roosevelt is equipped for practically any kind of water activity. If you'd rather stay on dry land, however, there's also a lot of fun to be had just walking along the lake's many coves and beaches. When the water level falls, you might even see some tribal artifacts - don't do anything but look, though, as it's against the law to disturb these sites.
To have a complete outdoors experience, why don't you go camping? There 27 National Park Service campgrounds, 11 campgrounds maintained by the Spokane Indian Tribe and 7 by the Colville Confederated Tribes.
For those who'd prefer something more physically challenging, there are many accessible trails in the area that are perfect for backpacking and day hiking. Check out the paths at Fort Spokane, Kettle Falls and Spring Canyon or head out to the national forests and state parks that are also within easy reach. Don't forget to keep your eyes open - Lake Roosevelt is home to more than 300 species of animals and you don't want to miss the inspiring sight of a majestic antlered elk or a golden eagle in flight.
