A Natural and Man-made Wonder
Formed when the Grand Coulee Dam's gates closed off part of the mighty Columbia River in 1942, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Lake, more well-known as Lake Roosevelt, does not, in fact, look like a lake. Technically, however, it is one - and with a length of over 150 miles it's also one of the largest reservoirs in the country.
On paper, Lake Roosevelt real estate already sounds impressive, with its more than 630 miles of shoreline, a surface of almost 81,000 acres (at full capacity) and water storage of up to 9.4 million acre-feet. The reality, however, will take your breath away.
The Grand Coulee Dam itself is already an impressive sight. With a height of 550 ft. and a length of 4,173, it's one of the biggest concrete dams in the world. The scenery around this man-made wonder, however, is what will really capture your attention.
From imposing boulders to gently rolling hills to dense stands of pine and fir - capped with an overarching expanse of blue sky - Lake Roosevelt offers some of the best and most varied scenery in the state of Washington. Many of its surrounding areas are protected, so you get to enjoy nature in its pristine state.
The area is so beautiful that many visitors decide to come back and relocate here, most opting for Lake Roosevelt homes for sale with waterfront views. The mild, semi-arid climate is also part of the attraction - after all, you can't really enjoy the great outdoors if inclement weather forces you to stay indoors. In January, temperatures here range from 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit, and it's not unusual for it to hit zero degrees. It gets warmer in July when temperatures climb to 65 and 75 degrees.
Come and visit scenic Lake Roosevelt, but be warned - you might never want to leave!
